Project Planning Online - A Virtual Team Simulation
Groups working together work smarter than individuals working alone. At the same time, groups
working virtually - online or by phone - often lack collective intelligence, and members often
"fly solo" rather than deal with the frustrations of a dispersed team. Catalyst created the
Project Planning Online Simulation to help teams facilitate online communication and
appropriately use technology that enable their dispersed teams to function effectively. This
interactive program offers an opportunity to practice collaborating and making group decisions
when participants are based in different workplaces.
Participants play the role of a newly formed team that is taking over a project currently being
managed by R&D. The new group has been assigned responsibility and authority to design a plan
for managing and executing the project. Using a conference call and online collaboration
software, members work individually and as a team to arrange 20 management activities for
planning the project.
The program lasts three hours, including assessment and debriefing. This online business
